I was surprised to find that many brides-to-be are opting for non-traditional engagement rings. We could thank Kate Middleton's famed heirloom sapphire ring, but even semi-precious stones are making a grand appearance. My favorite part: since they are less expensive, you can afford to go larger than you might with a diamond.

Very beautiful! I'm learning towards a sapphire ring since sapphires are more durable than semi-precious stones. They do cost more but still cheaper than diamonds!
